Carpets are a nice touch to any room or household, but in order to keep them looking new and last longer, you have to take proper care of them. You can not only improve the cleanliness and appearance of your home, but also the health. Let me share some of my favorite methods I use to keep my carpets looking new.
Buy a good quality vacuum. Yeah I know it's a no-brainer but this is probably the most important step you have to take. Vacuum your carpet Regularly, especially in high traffic areas. Take your time and do a thorough job to. Every so often change the direction in which you vacuum to help prevent matting. Remember that when you vacuum with the grain you remove surface dirt. Vacuum against the grain and you remove the deeper penetrating soil. Make sure to usequality carpet pads for your carpet, this helps extend your carpet's life. Get advice from a professional or retailer on which pad is a good choice. Rearrange furniture every so often to avoid crushing the stacks. When you move the furniture around, it changes the flow of traffic in the room. What this does is stop one area from being worn out too quickly. Place carpet protectors under heavy furniture to avoid flattening the fibers. Place a mat on the outside of your front door. This helps eliminate much of the dirt on your shoes from coming inside of your home. If you place the mat on the inside just remember to clean it regularly. Carpet Clean spills immediately, time is of the essence. Never leave any tips spills to settle into your carpet as they will remain permanent. Use a whitetowel or napkin and blot dry. Use curtains or blinds to help protect your carpet from the damaging rays of the sun. Things like bleach or chlorine based chemicals are no good for your carpets so keep them away. Be careful of pesticides to. Area rugs not only look great they can also protect your carpet, just remember to clean them often. Be very careful if attempting to clean your carpets yourself with one of those steam cleaners. Be sure to remove most of the water out of the carpet. This is very important, leaving too much water can cause a build up of mold and mildew. Very unhealthy for you and your family. Have your carpet professionally cleaned every so often (every 12 to 18 months should do just fine). Yes I know that you vacuum and clean regularly but there will come a timewhen a professional is needed. It may be a hassle to some, but it is well worth it if you want your floors to continue to look beautiful.
These may not seem like little things but they are effect and they do work. If you invest the time into keeping your carpets clean they can last you a very long time. It is not only for aesthetic purposes but keeping your floors clean helps keep you and your family healthy.
